The US may acquire a stake in Intel

The US administration is about to take a strategic step in the semiconductor sector. The government, led by President Donald Trump, has considered a direct partnership with Intel, one of the country’s largest chip manufacturers.

Talks are ongoing, and the possibility of the government acquiring a stake in the company and forming a partnership is being seriously considered. Intel shares rose more than 7 percent on the stock market after the news broke, and this increase continued at 2.6 percent in after-hours trading.

The Trump administration is positioning semiconductor and chip manufacturing among sectors critical to national security. Intel is the US’s leading representative in this area. For many years, the company played a key role in producing chips vital to both the defense industry and the global technology industry. However, in recent years, it has faced challenges due to increased competition, allegations of technological lag, and production challenges.

The first signs of talks emerged following a recent meeting between President Trump and Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan. Just a few days before the meeting, Trump publicly stated that Tan should resign due to his investments in Chinese technology companies. Despite this announcement, the meeting demonstrated the government’s intention to pursue a deeper strategic partnership rather than severing its relationship with Intel.

White House Press Secretary Kush Desai stated that no official announcement has yet been made and that any public information should be considered speculation. Intel, however, declined to comment on the discussions, stating that the company remains committed to initiatives aimed at strengthening the US’s technological and manufacturing leadership.

The government’s intended stake and the anticipated price for this transaction are not yet clear. However, market analysts believe the partnership is highly likely to materialize, in line with the Trump administration’s goals of promoting domestic manufacturing, increasing employment, and restoring technological superiority.
